Many thanks again to Yvonne Aburrow for developing this site, while putting up with plenty of interference from myself.
Acknowledgements: 100 Must-Read Science Fiction Novels
As limited time and space in the book prevented me from including fuller acknowledgements there, here's the real payback.
Nick Rennison's professionalism ensured a smooth collaboration, while unquestioning faith and encouragement from our editor Jenny Ridout made the whole project a breeze. Katie Taylor, Suzi Nicolau and Jocelyn Lucas of A & C Black all provided reliable, seamless support and Judy Tither's co-operation as proof-reader was invaluable.
We were honoured by the input from Chris Priest and Ian Watson, whose status in the world of SF made us feel our modest tome is of value in ongoing debates on science fiction. Patricia Jones let me get on with writing the book when I probably should have been doing something of more immediate importance.
Graham Bray, Martyn Folkes and Pete Waterman all proved to be willing consultants on which writers they felt we should include in the book (even if I didn't always listen to them), while Yvonne Aburrow and Heather Bird provided a valuable sense-check for me on female practitioners of SF. Colin Litster, Simon Hemmings, Sabine Coiffard and Chris Benson all helped more than they realised by patiently listening to me hold forth on the project. Vincent Cassar (who has his own book coming from Black in 2007) and Andrew Borgelin also offered encouragement. Managers at various branches of Waterstone's in Wales and the South West have also been supportive.
Finally, my parents are due some kudos for encouraging me to enjoy books from a very early age; Thanks Mam and Dad!
